According to Paul in the Bible, speaking in tongues is meaningful where there is one with the gift of interpretation. In 1 Corinthians 14, Paul discusses the use of spiritual gifts in worship, including the gift of speaking in tongues. He explains that while speaking in tongues can be a powerful tool for personal prayer and communication with God, it is not useful for public worship unless there is someone present who can interpret what is being said.
