Answer Details

The logic gates represented in Figure 1 are called NAND gates. A NAND gate is a digital logic gate that gives an output of "low" (logic 0) only when all of its inputs are "high" (logic 1). In all other cases, the output of a NAND gate is "high" (logic 1). In Figure 1, there are two inputs connected to a NAND gate symbol (which looks like an AND gate with a small circle at the output). This indicates that the gate performs the NAND function on its inputs.
