In John 3:19-20, Jesus explains that men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. He compared the situation to a person who prefers darkness because they do not want their evil deeds exposed by the light. Therefore, Jesus is saying that people who do wrong things prefer to hide their actions, and avoid the light that might reveal them. They choose to live in the darkness of their wrongdoing because they do not want to be exposed by the light of truth.
